Tinnitus

Affecting as many as 40 million adults in the US, tinnitus is a ringing, roaring, or hissing sound in one or both ears without an external cause. The condition can be either objective or subjective. Objective tinnitus involves sounds that both patient and doctor can hear and is usually caused by turbulent blood flow through malformed vessels, tumors, or rhythmic muscular spasms. Jamestown, Virginia, Founded (1607)

Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. It was founded by the London Company on a peninsula—now an island—in the James River and named after the reigning English monarch, James I. Disease, starvation, and Native American attacks wiped out most of the colony, but the London Company continually sent more men and supplies. Jamestown Day (2016)

Jamestown, Virginia, is the site of the first permanent English settlement in America, and it is also home to some other firsts‐both good and bad. It established the first representative government on the continent and built America's first Anglican (Episcopal) church, but it also brought the first African slaves to the colonies. On Jamestown Day, a commemorative service is held at the original settlement site, with speeches, choral selections, and a procession to the Memorial Cross, which marks the town's earliest cemetery. Bedbugs Found Carrying Superbugs

Experts have long believed that though blood-sucking bedbugs have an irritating bite, they do not carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans. Unfortunately, Canadian microbiologists investigating whether a bedbug outbreak and increasing numbers of antibiotic resistant bacteria strains in an area of Vancouver were related found bedbugs carrying two types of drug-resistant bacteria, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomy cin-resistant enterococci. There is still no evidence that the insects carry blood-borne diseases. More...
