Fixed and movable rings representing circles of the celestial sphere, such as the ecliptic and the celestial equator, allow astronomers to use armillary spheres to determine the movements and positions of stars. The Battle of Legnano (1176)

In 1160, Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa was excommunicated for his support of a series of antipopes against Pope Alexander III. Antibiotics Overprescribed to Asthmatic Kids

It is widely known that antibiotic overuse promotes the emergence of resistant bacteria, yet many pediatricians still prescribe antibiotics unnecessarily to asthmatic patients. A review of more than 60 million doctor visits in the US involving asthmatic children who had no symptoms indicating a need for antibiotic treatment found that doctors still prescribed one nearly 17% of the time. A similar trend was seen in Belgium. Researchers say that better educating doctors about the causes and appropriate courses of treatment for asthma could help reduce the overprescribing of antibiotics. More...
