Giordano Bruno

Bruno was a 16th-century Italian philosopher who theorized that the universe is infinite. "Fat Man" Detonated over Nagasaki, Japan (1945)

During WWII, Nagasaki became the target of the second atomic bomb ever detonated on a populated area. Three days after the US dropped a uranium bomb on Hiroshima, a more powerful plutonium device, code-named "Fat Man," was dropped on Nagasaki. National Women's Day (South Africa)

On August 9, 1956, a protest march was held at the Union BuildingsUnion Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa. Approximately 20,000 women participated in a peaceful march to protest against policies that restricted the rights of African women. Every year on August 9, people gather at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront Amphitheatre in Cape Town to celebrate National Women's Day. Rioting Continues in London

Rioting, which began on Saturday night in the Tottenham area of north London, has spread to other parts of the city. The clashes began after a peaceful protest of a police shooting that took the life of a 29-year-old father of four turned violent. Police vehicles were set alight and shops were looted and burned. The riots continued and spread on Sunday and Monday, resulting in dozens of injuries and millions of dollars in property damage and leading to more than 200 arrests.
