Poet and artist William Blake is known for the complex mythology he created in his Prophetic Books. Among the characters that take shape in these writings is Orc, a positive figure symbolizing rebellion, passion, freedom, and revolution. He stands opposed to Urizen, a figure of order and tradition. The Paddington Tram Depot Fire (1962)

In 1962, the Paddington Tram Depot in Brisbane, Australia, and 65 of its trams were destroyed in one of the largest fires in the city's history. During the Cultural Revolution in the late 1960s, Red Guards defaced many of the buildings in Qufu. They have since been restored, and the festival held there attracts scholars from China and abroad. The festival opens with a ceremony accompanied by ancient music and dance and includes exhibitions and lectures on the life and teachings of Confucius. More...

Buddhist Statue Taken by Nazis has Extraterrestrial Origins

The fascinating history of a priceless Buddhist statue could be the plot of a Hollywood blockbuster; it spans millennia and brings together Nazis, Buddhism, and meteorites. The statue, thought to feature the god Vaisravana, first received notice in the 1930s, when it was brought back to Germany by a Nazi-funded expedition sent to Tibet to find the origins of the Aryan race. In a surprising new turn of events, researchers have now identified the extraterrestrial origins of the 1,000-year-old artifact. It appears to have been carved from a piece of the Chinga meteorite, which crashed on Earth about 15,000 years ago. More...
