Reproductive periodicity, spawning induction, and larval metamorphosis of the hemichordate
acorn worm Ptychodera flava.
A reddish-purple
acorn worm with large lips either side of its head region reminded researchers of floppy-eared Star Wars character Yoda while pupurata is Latin for purple and describes its colorful hue.
Given the chance to explore these regions, researchers uncovered much that was new, including this species of
acorn worm. Of interest to evolutionary biologists, these creatures have a pair of gills like fish do.
A few examples of the diverse topics covered in the volumes include
acorn worm, air masses and fronts, animal cancer tests, big bang theory, biophysics, buckwheat, cardiac cycle, dentrification, dragonflies, geotropism, ice age refuges, irrational number, legumes, nuclear winter, oscillations, photocopying, quantum electrodynamics, restoration ecology, set theory, squirrel fish, tartaric acid, tumbleweed, ultraviolet astronomy, weather forecasting, xylotomy, and zodiacal light.
She notes that a United States bioprospecting group collected 204 pounds of a marine
acorn worm just to isolate one milligram of an anticancer compound.
In this study, we present a full description of a new copepod species, Ive ptychoderae, collected from the
acorn worm Ptychodera flava in Taiwan.
But Shu and others contested that interpretation, arguing in the April 4 NATURE that Yunnanozoon was a hemichordate, a separate phylum that includes the modern
acorn worm.
Previously we had sequenced this
acorn worm multiple times, but to further verify this sequence, genomic DNA was extracted from S.
Here, we use ribosomal DNA sequence and morphology to characterize an
acorn worm from the Russian Kara Sea as new genus and species: Coleodesmium karaensis within the family Torquaratoridae.
There are
acorn worms and before you start dismissing worms as inferior and primitive then consider that the
acorn worms are classified with us humans in the Phylum Chordata -- chordates like us.
Vargas (1987, 1988) also listed the presence of peanut worms (Sipuncula), Glottidia audebarti (Broderip, 1835) lamp shells (Brachiopoda) and
acorn worms (Enteropneusta).
