Also called Day of Ashes, the burning of palm fronds is traditionally done in churches Tuesday afternoon.
In the case of CFBC ashes, the silica compounds are chiefly present in residual fractions (Si[O.sub.2], KAl[Si.sub.3][O.sub.8], [KAl.sub.2]([Si.sub.3]Al[O.sub.10])[(OH).sub.2]), while the PF ash contains noticeably more secondary silicates--[beta]-[Ca.sub.2]Si[O.sub.4], [Ca.sub.3]Mg[(Si[O.sub.4]).sub.2], etc.
Although alkaline fly ashes had higher [B.sub.t] content than the acidic fly ashes, the [B.sub.s] as a percentage of [B.sub.t] (%[B.sub.s]) was lower in the alkaline than the acidic fly ashes (Table 2).
