 (bär-dēn′), John 1908-1991.

American physicist. He shared two Nobel Prizes in physics, one in 1956 for the development of the electronic transistor, and one in 1972 for a theory of superconductivity.

(bär-dēn′), John 1908-1991.

American physicist who was one of the inventors of the transistor (1947) and later helped to develop the theory of superconductivity. Bardeen's research explained why the electrical resistance of certain materials disappears at temperatures close to absolute zero, thereby allowing a current to flow through them.
