The method used for printing the image on these bone china wares is an interesting one and is known as bat printing.
Instead of paper, a sheet or bat of glue was used, hence the term bat printing.
Bat printing, whereby the image was placed over the glaze, dusted with pigment and fired, was developed in Staffordshire.
