On examination vital signs were within normal limits with a heart rate of 90 bpm and bounding pulse; cardiac examination showed a regular rate and rhythm with no murmurs, rubs, or gallops.
Peripheral arterioles lose their sympathetic tone, and peripheral vasodilation may occur leading to polyneuropathy--one sign is a warm foot with a bounding pulse. Damage to the vagus nerve can lead to gastroparesis.
