Em 1842, Christian Johann Doppler descreve a situacao na qual uma fonte de ondas (sonoras ou eletromagneticas), que esta em movimento em relacao a um receptor, altera a frequencia de onda durante este processo, aumentando a frequencia durante a aproximacao da fonte e diminuindo durante o seu distanciamento (KAWAKAMA et al., 1993).
An Austrian physicist, Christian Johann Doppler (1803-1853), explained the phenomenon correctly by pointing out that the sound waves partake of the motion of the source and so reach the ear at shorter intervals when the source is approaching-hence higher pitch.
