Citizen journalism scholarship has garnered growing interest and attention as citizens increasingly engage in news consumption and production processes through digital communication technologies, which may lead to democratic outcomes (e.g., Carpenter, 2008, 2010; Goode, 2009; Kaufhold, Valenzuela, & Gil de Zuniga, 2010; Lewis, Kaufhold, & Lasorsa, 2010; Nah & Chung, 2009, 2012; Ostman, 2012; Thurman, 2008).
