Excision and infibulations are the most common among the Taitas and Maasais while
clitoridectomy is preferred by the Somali and Taveta communities.
For instance,
Clitoridectomy, known as Ibenwanyiugwu has been misconceived to be female genital mutilation instead of seeing it from the perspective of an indigenous way of having pleasurable sexuality by cutting the erectile tissue of the clitoris in order to maintain family dignity (Okonkwo 2008:100) and to limit excessive urge for sex by young unmarried women.
The World Health Organization has agreed upon an international categorization of FGM divided into four types, depending on the extent of genital tissue removed: type [IOTA] (
clitoridectomy), type II (excision), type III (infibulations) and type IV (other).
According to the private clinic, it only performs
clitoridectomy (also described as female circumcision) for medical reasons on adult women with referrals from their doctors.
Whether it is
clitoridectomy, excision or infibulation, FGM is a global hindrance in the development of social life, especially for girls and women, since it adversely affects their mental and bodily health. As the winners of the Daily Trust's 2018 African of the Year award, these girls will be feted in Abuja, Nigeria, in January and awarded Sh2.5 million in cash.
Type I:
Clitoridectomy: The different levels of excision of the clitioris to be described as forms of
clitoridectomy.
After listening to their litany of disembodied early sexual experiences, she concludes that, as a society, we have "performed the psychological equivalent of a
clitoridectomy on our daughters."
Type I: Also known as
clitoridectomy, this type consists of partial or total removal of the clitoris and/or its hood.
There are four defined types of FGM/C: namely, partial or total removal of the clitoris and/or the prepuce (
clitoridectomy) (type I); partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora, with or without excision of the labia majora (excision) (type II); narrowing of the vaginal orifice with creation of a covering seal by cutting and appositioning the labia minora and/or the labia majora, with or without excision of the clitoris (infibulation) (type III); and all other harmful procedures on the female genitalia for nonmedical purposes such as pricking, piercing, incising, scraping, and cauterization (type IV) [1].
One of Essence magazine's "Woke 100 Women," Sarsour was named a leader of the Women's March that followed President Donald Trump's inauguration, despite declaring that "nothing is creepier than Zionism"though her wish to "take away" the "vagina" of
clitoridectomy victim and human-rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, praise for Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, upholding Saudi Arabia as a bastion of women's lib, embrace of the terrorist murderer Rasmea Odeh, and claim that "Shariah law is reasonable" because "suddenly all your loans & credits cards become interest-free," are allat least in my humble estimationdefinitely creepier.
Her punishment is severe, though: she undergoes a forced
clitoridectomy. While the programme makers have mentioned their consultations with the UN over the importance of highlighting female genital mutilation, there is another allusion here - to gay conversion therapy, still not illegal in Britain.
