The yellow-shafted flicker (
Colaptes auratus) on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
This also may be conditioning species from other foraging strategies (such as flycatchers: Pyrrhomyias cinnamomeus and Myiarchus cephalotes, or bark foragers:
Colaptes rivolii, Xiphorhynchus triangularis and Margarornis squamiger) to forage at the understory, where they are able to find perching sites and shelter against predators.
Northern flicker (
Colaptes auratus) and red-headed woodpecker (Melanerpes erythrocephalus) were the only two species not observed in unburned forest; both species were predominantly found at low severity and high severity burned sites.
In one rosette the yellow shafted flicker (
Colaptes auratus) provides the raw material; in the other the red shafter flicker (
Colaptes cafer collaris) with its salmon red tail feathers has been employed.

Colaptes auratus, Wiebe 2005; barn owl Tyto alba, Henry et al.
The use of dried meat and feathers of the Andean flicker bird (
Colaptes rupicola) as a galactagogue has been reported from the Peruvian Andes (Froemming, 2006).

The Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens, 5.85%) and Northern Flicker (
Colaptes. auratus, 4.11%) were also abundant, but were absent from one and two sites, respectively.
Asimismo, Picoides fumigatus,
Colaptes spp.) y chororo (Guira guira).
