Cylindrical slide rule

A slide rule using a cylindrical configuration to allow several feet of rule to be included in an instrument only a few inches long. The one shown was made about 1900. It is twenty inches long and can give four-or-five-place computational accuracy.

Wider interest in the slide rule was awakened about 1881, when Edwin Thacher, a bridge engineer, patented a
cylindrical slide rule, and Robert Riddell published his book, The Slide Rule Simplified.
The Loga cylinder slide rule (a relative of the large
cylindrical slide rule invented by Edwin Thacher in 1881) garnered the highest price - $863.
I have heard stories about round slide rules in Russia, pocket slide rules in Serbia, and even
cylindrical slide rules from the 1800s, which was well before my time, I assure you.
