Dolly Varden trout (Salvelinus malma), harlequin ducks (Histrionicus histrionicus), harbor seals (Phoca vitulina), Kittlitz's murrelets (Brachyramphus brevirostris), marbled murrelets (Brachyramphus marmoratus marmoratus), killer whales (Orcinus orca), mussels (Mytilus edulis), Pacific herring (Clupea harengus), river otters (Lutra canadensis), pigeon guillemots (Cepphus columba), pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha), rockfish (Sebastes sp.), sea otters (Enhydra lutris), and sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka).
At the mouth of the creek, a 1/2-mile walk from our cabin, we caught as many cutthroat trout as we could eat, and even landed a few delicate-flavored
Dolly Varden trout. We cast flies, and the trout would strike them immediately.
Salmon still jump, killer whales still frequent Misty's waters, and the kayak rangers regularly feast on
Dolly Varden trout and red snapper--and on the admiration of their audiences.
