Even when adjusted for factors such as socioeconomic status, cancer, renal failure and anemia, the link between drug-eluting stent treatment and lower mortality persisted, the researchers said.
Drug-eluting stents received a big boost on September 4 during a meeting of the European Society of Cardiology in Stockholm Sweden, when it was reported that results from a landmark clinical trial suggested that a drug-eluting stent reduced the incidence of restenosis to zero, compared to 26% restenosis for a similar non-coated stent.
