Ed·mon·ton
(ĕd′mən-tən) The capital of Alberta, Canada, in the central part of the province north of Calgary. It was founded in 1795 as a fort and trading post of the Hudson's Bay Company and grew with the development of the petroleum industry in the mid-1900s.
