Modeling transport and retention of Engraulis anchoita Hubbs & Marini, 1935 (Clupeiformes,
Engraulidae) early life stages along the Central Southwestern Atlantic Continental Shelf.
Mitochondrial phylogenomics of anchovies (family
Engraulidae) and recurrent origins of pronounced miniaturization in the order Clupeiformes.
Families with more species were Carangidae (10 spp), Gerreidae (4 spp),
Engraulidae (3 spp) and Lutjanidae (3 spp).
This order is represented by seven families: Chirocentridae, Clupeidae, Denticipitidae, Dussumieriidae,
Engraulidae, Pristigasteridae, and Sundasalangidae (Eschmeyer and Fong, 2017), and species are distributed in all continents (Malabarba et al., 2013) except Antarctica.
Extrusion was evident also among larvae of taxa in the families
Engraulidae, Sciaenidae, and Scombridae, but less so for Clupeidae and Lutjanidae; the latter result was most likely attributable to a mismatch between the timing of sampling and spawning seasons.

This protocol is recommended for all species, especially those having a compressed and elongated body, such as Gymnotiformes,
Engraulidae, Acestrorhynchidae, Ctenoluciidae and Cynodontidae, as well as for species that have a long, cylindrical body, such as Trichomycteridae, Heptapteridae, Lebiasinidae, Parodontidae and some Crenuchidae.

The FAO presents landings for anchoveta,
Engraulidae, and herring, Clupeidae, which correspond to national and independent landings data for these species.
