Fur·ni·vall
(fûr′nə-vəl), Frederick James 1825-1910. British philologist who founded numerous literary societies and as a member of the Philological Society proposed (1857) the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary, for which he later served as chief editor (1861-1870).
