Evidence for primary
hyperaldosteronism may not be uncommon--twelve percent incidence among antihypertensive drug trial volunteers.
Potassium is usually lost as a result of repeated vomiting, osmotic diuresis and secondary
hyperaldosteronism which occur as a result of volume depletion.
In ileostomized patients in whom a small intestine resection was applied, it is well known that too much stomal water and sodium losses result in secondary
hyperaldosteronism.11,12 Case reports in which PHA developed instead of
hyperaldosteronism after ileum and colon resection in adults are present in the literature.3,4,13 To the best of our knowledge, patient 8 is the first case in the literature in whom PHA was demonstrated after ileal resection and ileostomy in a newborn with diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis.
Secondary hypertension corresponds to 15 % of the causes of arterial hypertension, and among them, primary
hyperaldosteronism is the most common cause of reversible hypertension, with a very characteristic clinical frame.

The announcement noted, "Spironolactone tablets are indicated in the management of primary

Spironolactone carries a warning to monitor serum potassium because of its association with hyperkalemia, (20) but its approved uses are in patients with heart failure, hypertension, primary
hyperaldosteronism, and edema associated with cirrhosis.
Primary aldosteronism (also known as primary
hyperaldosteronism or Conn`s syndrome) is commonly caused by adrenal hyperplasia, adrenal carcinoma [32] and rarely may be inherited [33].

Patients with Bartter syndrome, an autosomal recessive salt-wasting tubulopathy, characteristically present with hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, and secondary
hyperaldosteronism with normal to low blood pressure.
