Two weeks ago, the Pakistan TelAecommunication Authority (PTA) had asked all subscribers with dual SIM mobile phones to register their
IMEI numbers before Aug 31.
Users can send an email at typeapproval@pta.gov.pk with details including screenshot of device showing all programmed
IMEI, screenshot of device box showing IMEI(s), copy of CNIC and contact details to register such devices.
To check the status of a mobile device, dial *#06# and SMS each 15 digit
IMEI to 8484.
Stolen or lost mobile phones often find they way to the black market where new
IMEI numbers are flashed on these devices to make them untraceable.
In many terrorism incidents, mobile devices with no
IMEI number were detected.
The police officer further informed that the
IMEI numbers of these mobile phones will be uploaded on Delhi Police Website within two days.
'If I have a legally purchased and registered smartphone, I have an
IMEI number that is also legal and registered.
An
IMEI number is a unique code given to your mobile by its maker just like the vehicle identification number.
In order to facilitate any user, currently using non-compliant mobile devices (15 digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (
IMEI) of mobile device is not as per international standards), Pakistan Telecommunication
'After DIRBS implementation on 1st of December 2018, any new mobile device programmed with a non-standard
IMEI number will be considered as non-compliant device and shall not be allowed any mobile connectivity/service in Pakistani territory as per PTA/DIRBS regulations.'
