Mobile satellite communications company
Inmarsat has announced that Avionica, part of GE Aviation, will develop a new cost-effective, lightweight terminal for
Inmarsat's SB-S aircraft operations and safety platform, the company said.
The cost of the satellites has not been disclosed, although
Inmarsat did say the level of capital expenditure for the new satellite programme aligns with long-term planning so it has not changed its overall capital expenditure guidance.
The FAA has also validated the capability of
Inmarsat SB-S to support air traffic services by providing direct datalink communication between pilots and Air Traffic Control (ATC).
Inmarsat reported a 0.4 per cent uptick in revenue to $346.9m in the three months to the end of March, but earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation dropped 12.9 per cent to $152.4m.
Satellite communications company Orbit Communication Systems Ltd (TASE:ORBI) declared on Wednesday a long-term agreement to offer its end-users a new modular, multi-role aviation terminal, optimized for use over Global Xpress (GX) network from
Inmarsat Government.
The partnership shows
Inmarsat's confidence in Isotropic Systems' disruptive optical array technology and its market-focused business plan to expand the range of future mobility applications supported by the global high-throughput satellite (HTS) capacity now delivered by
Inmarsat's Ka-band Global Xpress network.
