Joshua
Lederberg, PhD, gave meaning to the term "microbiome" in 2001 as the "ecological community of commensal, symbiotic, and pathogenic microorganisms that literally share our body space." (1) This community of microorganisms comprises bacteria, fungi, viruses, archaea, and protists.
In 1964, I was fortunate to find an enthusiastic collaborator, Joshua
Lederberg, Professor of Genetics and Nobel Prize winner at Stanford.
To misquote US molecular biologist Joshua
Lederberg, who won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1958 for discovering that bacteria can exchange genetic material, 'It's up to us to use our wits to keep up with [bacterial] genes.' And computational science has given us some of the best tools to do so.

Those influential reports--which represent the insights of Joshua
Lederberg, Robert Shope, and their colleagues--from the Institute of Medicine (now National Academy of Medicine) Committee on Emerging Microbial Threats offered far-reaching recommendations and galvanized support for research and public health action to address the challenges posed by new, emerging, and reemerging infectious diseases.

A long duration of hearing loss negatively affects the cognitive and phonological skills that underpin language comprehension (Classon, Rudner, & Ronnberg, 2013; Kral & Eggermont, 2007;
Lederberg, Schick, & Spencer, 2013; Lyxell et al., 1998; Ronnberg et al., 2013), which might negatively influence ToM development (Slade & Ruffman, 2005).
The famous Joshua
Lederberg, Nobelist in Microbiology once said, "The biggest single threat to man's continued dominance on this planet is the virus." (20) Unfortunately for us, how very prescient he was!
