(lē′bĭg), Baron Justus von 1803-1873. German chemist who contributed to many areas of chemistry. He was one of the first to investigate organic compounds and to develop techniques for their analysis. Liebig also established one of the first teaching laboratories, where many 19th-century chemists were trained.
