An attempt by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to justify the forced exclusion of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) from Azerbaijan SSR by the process of Azerbaijan's secession from the USSR is evidence of his legal illiteracy or deliberate deceit, reads the appeal of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry,Trendreports Aug.
At that time, over one million people rallied in Yerevan in support of
Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast's reunification with the Armenian SSR, but again the Supreme Soviet of the USSR concluded that Karabakh should remain part of Azerbaijan.
As it is indicated: "Renounce the use of armed force to settle disputes among them...and withdraw all armed forces." However, Agreement II, deals with the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, calls the parties to conflict to recognize the territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia; to create the administrative border of Nagorno-Karabakh within the borders of Azerbaijan in accordance with the borders of the former
Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO), which should have its own constitution, flag, seal, and anthem.
Concomitantly, the
Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast declared its independence from Azerbaijan, but, in legal terms, it remained subjected to the USSR.
