David Henderson, the managing director of
Ordnance Survey Great Britain, added: "The creation of an underground map of utility assets has long been an ambition of
Ordnance Survey, and over the last year we have been working closely with Northumbrian Water, and a consortia of utility companies and local authorities in the North East of England, to explore how accurate geospatial data can improve underground infrastructure maintenance and inform new build development projects.
But the
Ordnance Survey says the boundary is accurately shown, saying "Mr Phillips has taken measurements using the wrong scale mapping and technology which isn't as advanced as what OS Surveyors use".
However, Neil Ackroyd, acting chief executive of
Ordnance Survey, said that it would not be possible to identify individual people from the images.
Ordnance Survey also undertook a Geospatial Maturity Assessment to establish the maturity of NSA against key geospatial and operational criteria.
