This polymer is the most commonly used membrane material for separation of large condensable vapors from
permanent gases [11-13].
The material is introduced into a vessel where it is sequentially decomposed and transformed into
permanent gases: hydrogen, carbon monoxide, light hydrocarbons such as methane, and C[O.sub.2].
According to solution-diffusion approach, permeance, J, including vapours and
permanent gases in a mixture are ordinarily expressed as shown by Leemann et al.
Gradually one learned to condense more gases by lowering the temperature and by raising the pressure, but a group of
permanent gases still seemed to remain, to which the law of Boyle-Gay-Lussac apparently applies.
Permanent gases such as carbon monoxide, phosphine, hydrogen sulfide, and airborne ammonia are detected by the metalloporphyrins as well.

This was useful for chemists to know, because in their efforts to liquefy the so-called
permanent gases, they would clearly have to lower the temperature below the critical temperature first, and only then apply pressure.
The system thus offers considerable production benefits over the complex process used to produce multi-layer containers that provide physical barriers to
permanent gases. Because of its monolithic rather multi-layer structure and its compatibility with PET, it should offer the potential for recycling.
