The methylphenanthrene indices (MPI-1 and MPI-2) were computed based on the relative concentrations of the 7-MP, 2-MP, 2-MP, 9-MP and phenanthrene (P).
in [20] investigated photocatalytically oxidation using Ti[O.sub.2] of 5 selected PAHs, namely, naphthalene, acenaphthylene, phenanthrene, Anthracene, and benzo[a]anthracene.
Some PAHs have been classified as priority pollutants [9]; sixteen of the common or so "unsubstituted" PAHs, naphthalene, acenaphthylene, acenaphthene, fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene, dibenz[a,h]anthracene, benzo[g,h,i]perylene, and indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, typically analyzed in standard contract laboratory scans have been listed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).
A standard mixture of PAHs in the priority list of US EPA (acenaphthene (ACE), acenaphthylene (ACY), anthracene (ANT), benzo(a)anthracene (BaA), benzo(b)fluoranthene (BbF), benzo(k)fluoranthene (BkF), benzo(ghi)perylene (BPY), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), chrysene (CHR), dibenzo(a,h)anthracene (DBA), fluoranthene (FLT), fluorene (FLU), indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene (IND), naphthalene (NAP), phenanthrene (PHE), and pyrene (PYR)) prepared at a concentration of 2000 [micro]g/mL in methylene chloridebenzene (1: 1 v/v) and a mixture of deuterated internal standards (I.S.) (acenaphthene-[d.sub.10], phenanthrene-[d.sub.10], and chrysene-[d.sub.12]) prepared at a concentration of 500 [micro]g/mL in acetone were purchased from Supelco (Bellefonte, PA, USA).
For the convenience of investigating the catalytic effects of metallic oxidant on PAHs with different ring number, the 16 PAHs were divided into LMW-PAHs (2-3 rings PAHs): naphthalene (2 rings), acenaphthylene (3 rings), acenaphthene (3 rings), fluorene (3 rings), phenanthrene (3 rings), anthracene (3 rings), MMWPAHs (4 rings PAHs): fluoranthene (4 rings), pyrene (4 rings), benzo[a]anthracene (4 rings), chrysene (4 rings), HMWPAHs (5-6 rings PAHs): benzo[b]auoranthene (5 rings), benzo[k]fluoranthene (5 rings), benzo[a]pyrene (5 rings), indeo[123-c,d]pyrene (6 rings), dibenz[a,h]anthracene (6 rings), and benzo[g,h,i]perylene (6 rings) [13].
Before extraction, carbon-13-labelled IPA (phenanthrene) was added to the extracts as internal standard.
