Among his numerous other honors are memberships in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society and Phi Beta Kappa Society. In 1991, he was honored as "Humanist of the Year" by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities; and in 1999, the Shreveport Times cited him as one of the "100 Influential People in Northwest Louisiana over the Past 100 Years."
