In New Zealand, parasitic wasps Pteromalus puparum were brought in to reduce the number of Cabbage White butterflies
Pieris rapae (Hufaker and Messenger 1976).
A Hierarchy of Cues Directs the Foraging of
Pieris rapae Larvae.
(Hymenoptera: Apidae) and the cabbage white butterfly
Pieris rapae (L.) (Lepidoptera: Pieridae).
Hsp20 mRNA in
Pieris rapae pupae was clearly up-regulated between 12-48 h post-parasitization by Pteromalus puparum (Zhu et al., 2013).
To isolate effects of salt, Snell-Rood and colleagues followed up their monarch study with a test of cabbage white butterflies (
Pieris rapae), which cooperate in the lab by growing on a highly controllable artificial diet.
Pieris brassicae (29.46 Percent) was the dominant species followed by Trichoplusia ni (19.28 Percent), Helicoverpa Zea (11.78 Percent), Helicoverpa armigera (11.60 Percent), Spodoptera exigua (6.65 Percent), Psedoplusia includes (5.09 Percent), Spodoptera litura (3.81 Percent), Agrotis ipsilon (4.87 Percent), Plutella xylostella (2.92 Percent), Lymatria dispar (2.24 Percent),
Pieris rapae (0.92 Percent), Galleria mellonella (0.71 Percent), Evergestris rimosalis (0.53 Percent) and Menduca sexta (0.14 Percent).
The Wisconsin Fast Plants group has used
Pieris rapae, the cabbage white butterfly, as a model organism to demonstrate the interdependence of these butterflies and rapid-cycling Brassica rapa, or the Fast Plant, developed by Paul Williams at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Williams & Hill, 1986).
In fact, one, the Cabbage White (
