1. Anatomy A seamlike line or ridge between two similar parts of a body organ, as in the scrotum.
2. Botany The portion of the funiculus that is united to the ovule wall, commonly visible as a line or ridge on the seed coat.
3. The median groove of a diatom valve.

The fibrotic bands in the buccal mucosa run in vertical directions, in the soft palate the fibrous bands radiate from the pterygomandibular raphe or the anterior faucial pillars and in the lips circular bands can be felt around entire rima oris.
Fibrotic bands are visible at the soft palate, and pterygomandibular raphe and anterior tonsillar pillars.
Intraoral examination demonstrated an exophytic, fungating mass on the buccal mucosa, on the right hand side, extending antero-posteriorly from the right commissure to approximately 3 cm anterior to the pterygomandibular raphe. The mucosa over the lesion was whitish, hyperplastic with papillomatous surface (Figure 1).
