The H/V is linked to the ellipticity of
Rayleigh wave, in situation where the high shear wave contrasts exist between soil and bedrock (Bard 1999).
and Gabrielli, P.: 2007,
Rayleigh wave dispersion curve inversion via genetic algorithms and marginal posterior probability density estimation.
When
Rayleigh wave excitation is dominant, polarization analysis can be used to determine the incident azimuth.
There is quite a good consistency between the main extremum ([f.sub.1]) of the experimental curve of the HVSR, the transfer function and
Rayleigh wave ellipticity for the fundamental mode.
Where [C.sub.R]: the
Rayleigh wave speed in the material, [f.sub.max] : the maximum frequency, which is usually set at 1 MHz in AE, [[lambda].sub.min] : the minimum wavelength and [l.sub.e]: the average size of one element.
A particular case of
Rayleigh wave has been discussed and the dispersion curves of the phase velocity and attenuation coefficients have also been presented graphically.
In both figureures, it is clear that the
Rayleigh wave velocity and attenuation coefficient have a nonzero value only in a bounded region of space.
These speeds were smaller, closer, or greater than the
Rayleigh wave speed of the ground.
Love [3] extended the work of Bromwich investigated the influence of gravity on superfacial waves and showed that the
Rayleigh wave velocity is affected by the gravity field.
