The 'data fork' was the contents of the file, and the 'resource fork' was a smaller chunk that told the computer which application the file belonged to - usually what created it.
Compressed archives can contain resource forks and HFS metadata stored in an invisible"_MAC OS X" folder.
The worm uses the text 'oompa' as an infection marker in the resource forks of infected programs to prevent it from re-infecting the same files.
