Respiratory quotient (RQ = ratio of C[O.sub.2] moles produced per unit mole [O.sub.2] consumed) used in the biological literature is applied to combustion of fossil and biomass fuels in order to rank their potential in producing global warming C[O.sub.2] (C[O.sub.2] in tons per GJ [approximately equal to] RQ * 0.1 and C[O.sub.2] in short tons per MMBtu = RQ * 0.116).
The
respiratory quotient, RQ is the ratio of the volumetric rate at which C[O.sub.2] is produced to the rate at which oxygen is consumed, and its value depends primarily on diet.
AA, African- American; BMI, body mass index; EA, European-American; RCR, respiratory control ratio; RQ,
respiratory quotient; VAT, visceral adipose tissue.
Food quotient,
respiratory quotient, and energy balance.
2.0 kPa C[O.sub.2] promotes changes in
respiratory quotient during storage time, keep higher mass loss in function of respiration (C[O.sub.2] losses) and lower soluble solids after storage.
Indirect calorimetry measures showed decreased energy expenditure on no-breakfast days and a significantly reduced
respiratory quotient, which indicates greater fat oxidation, she said.
The circadian rhythms of food and water consumption, the number of feeding anddrinking episodes, oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production,
respiratory quotient, gross motor activity, and body temperature were measured in male B6C3F1 mice that were fed ad libitum (AL) or fed a caloric-restricted diet (CR).
A study in endurance athletes has shown that L-carnitine supplementation decreases the
respiratory quotient (RQ) during a 45 minute cycling exercise, indicating a glycogen sparing effect, which is thought to lead to improved performance and a delayed onset of fatigue.
Respiratory quotient and calcification of Nautilus macromphalus (Cephalopoda: Nautiloidea).
Mean [V.sub.E], V[O.sub.2], VC[O.sub.2], nonprotein
respiratory quotient (npRQ), HR, [O.sub.2] pulse, ventilatory equivalents for oxygen ([V.sub.E]/V[O.sub.2]) and carbon dioxide ([V.sub.E]/VC[O.sub.2]) were measured during the last 10 min of the workload of 7.0 km/hr.
