Wineberries (Rubus phoenicolasius), or wine raspberries, are a beautiful species, bearing glowing garnet, sweet-tart berries on arching, hairy red canes with few, fine thorns among light green leaves.
Less well-known, but equally easy to grow, is the Japanese wineberry, Rubus phoenicolasius. Let it trail over an open fence where it catches the sun and enjoy its bright red bristly stems glistening with light and warmth.
Given my passion for reds, I wouldn't want to miss the Japanese wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius).
