an island in the N Leeward Islands, in the E West Indies, divided in two parts: the N section is a dependency of Guadeloupe. 8072; 20 sq. mi. (52 sq. km); the S section is an administrative part of the Netherlands Antilles. 14,639; 17 sq. mi. (44 sq. km). Dutch, Sint Maarten.
