A fold of rock layers that slope upward on both sides of a common low point. Synclines form when rocks are compressed by plate-tectonic forces. They can be as small as the side of a cliff or as large as an entire valley. Compare anticline.
Except in the northeasternmost part of the Prague Syncline (including the Prague-Repy section), the black shale succession was interrupted by a hiatus (rather a long-term omission of sedimentation) in the upper part of the Parakidograptus acuminatus Biozone (Storch 2006) which resulted in a biostratigraphically dated paraconformity in most of the sections (including the Hlasna Treban and Radotin tunnel sections).
The west limb of the anticlinal fold, where the Rozna deposit is situated, changes into the Rozsochy syncline; the opposite limb changes into the east syncline (Olsi syncline).
Historical regional seismic lines have been investigated and they indicate syncline structures present in both Yellow Jacket and Karura that have the potential to preserve the Permian coal measures of the Betts Creek Beds east of the known sub crop.
The presence of gas/condensate, rather than oil, in Bukha is the result of a greater depth of burial of early Cretaceous/Jurassic source rocks in the Ras al-Khaimah syncline.
At Belliveau Village, these two cleavages are largely disrupted by layer-parallel shear planes in the limb of the Belliveau syncline, indicating that they predated folding.
The right part of the image displays more information content than figure 11, being notorious the anticline structure in the upper section that descends to create a syncline structure.
The orebodies of the Silvana mine lie within the Triassic Slocan Group, a thick succession of north-northwest-trending argillites, quartzites and limestones that appear to be folded about a large, recumbent syncline (Hedley, 1952).
