There are other chemical procedures for the purification of marine and freshwater cultures, particularly of microalgae, involving the use of bacteriostatic agents such as potassium tellurite ([K.sub.2]Te[O.sub.3]) or sulfonamides, which oxidizes bacterial cells and prevents the synthesis of nucleic acids by bacteria, respectively.
Samples were processed within 2 h using swab culture technique on mitis salivarius agar (Himedia M259) supplemented with 0.2 U/mL bacitracin and 1% potassium tellurite, the plates were incubated at 37AdegC for 48 h (Gold et al., 1973).
Seven heavy metal resistance loci were also encoded by pC45VIM4: the tellurite resistance genes terY3Y2XY1W (bases 65,568-69,439) and terZABCDEF (bases 76,028-82,281); the cobalt-zinc-cadmium-resistance protein (bases 118,576 to 119,544); operon copS/copE (bases 165,340 to 167,337); the efflux system rcnR/rcnA (bases 167,595 to 169,105); the arsenic resistance genes arsCBRH (bases 181,666-184,550 bp); and 1 complete mercury resistance operon, merRTCADE (base 134,519-138,533).
Negative reactions include catalase, iron uptake, niacin, nitrate reduction, and tellurite reduction.

Suitable dilutions were spread plated at volumes of 0.1 mL on Baird-Parker agar supplemented with egg yolk tellurite emulsion (Bioxon) and incubated under aerobic conditions at 37[degrees]C.

Importantly, the genome contains genes related to resistance to several toxic compounds, including tellurite, cobalt, zinc-cadmium (CzcA), and fusaric acid, a mycotoxin produced by several Fusarium species that cause diseases in economically important crops [57].
Loss of 590 nm absorbing material released from bacteria was measured using the dilution method (SR EN ISO 6887-5:2011) and horizontal method for the enumeration of coagulase-positive staphylococci using Bayrd-Parker agar base with Egg Yolk Tellurite Emulsion (Oxoid, CM0275SR EN ISO 68881:2002 SR EN ISO 6888-3:2002).
