There are over 170 shell discs found on 20 burial grounds of the Middle Kama region, they were made of Turbinella pyrum gastropods that live in the littoral zone of the Indian Ocean (Goldina 2017, figs 9-30, 31).

En terminos generales, la vegetacion se compone de matorral xerofilo que incluye una gran variedad de especies de porte suculento como cactaceas, agaves, yucas y sotoles, ademas de abundantes hierbas anuales, arbustos y algunos pequenos arboles que pueden alcanzar alturas de tres o cuatro metros como es el caso del encino Quercus turbinella (Green, 1889) y el mezquite Prosopis glandulosa (Torrey, 1827) (Corral & Worthtington, 1986; Worthington & Corral, 1987; Goodell, 1997).

En algunas regiones del Caribe, la disminucion de las poblaciones del caracol pala y el burgao, y las medidas de regulacion adoptadas para su conservacion, han conllevado el aumento de la explotacion de otras especies de caracol como Turbinella angulata (Lightfoot 1786), Strombus costatus (Gmelin 1791) y Cassis madagascariensis (Lamarck, 1822), entre otros (Baqueiro 1997, Perez-Perez & Aldana-Aranda 2000, FAO 2005, BaqueiroCardenas 2004).
