The white of the eye has been coloured black so it is completely dark.
Ruptured blood vessels in the conjunctiva, the clear membrane covering the white of the eye and lining the eyelids, causing bleeding under the membrane.
If you can see a foreign object on the white of the eye, wash it out by pouring clean water from a glass or jug, or by using sterile eyewash if you have one.
Conjunctivitis, the commonest cause of these symptoms, usually affects the whole of the white of the eye rather than just part of it, so I needed a closer look.
