It should be noted that Citrix Corporation had released several versions of its MetaFrame product, beginning with the first release titled "
WinFrame" followed by "MetaFrame 1.8" and "MetaFrame XP." During this migration project, Citrix Corporation released a new version entitled "Presentation Server [TM]" and also announced that the MetaFrame XP version would be supported until June 30, 2007.
Having implemented numerous Microsoft terminal server, Citrix
WinFrame and Citrix MetaFrame solutions, my experience is that Citrix MetaFrame is not necessarily faster than Microsoft terminal services.
Support, maintenance and distribution of new versions or software updates is done remotely using PC Anywhere 32 through direct modem or Internet access, and while most WMDB clients use PC Anywhere 32 for laptop dialup access, some locations use
WinFrame, Citrix or similar remote access software.
Another option for Windows CE users is to run a program called Citrix
WinFrame. This allows users to access and run (usually through a wireless modem) programs and data that reside on a central server computer.
ICA is used as the protocol between Windows NT Terminal Server Edition and thin client terminals, through the Citrix
WinFrame and MetaFrame product.

WinFrame to X11 desktops, UNIX Integration Services provides our customers with even greater connectivity options," said Steve Piper, senior product manager.
In other news, Citrix says that to date it has trained and certified over 8,000 MetaFrame and
WinFrame administrators through its Citrix Authorised Learning Centres.
The
WinFrame software directs the client request to the appropriate server.
Its products include GO-Global, the world's first thin X server for PC's running Microsoft Windows, GO-Joe, the world's first thin Java X server, and GO-Between, the world's first thin X server for multi-user NT (such as Microsoft Terminal Server and Citrix
WinFrame).
Currently one of the most popular options, most setups use a third-party software such as Citrix,
WinFrame, or MagaFrame.
