At each position, we defined the major allele count as the highest nucleotide count, the minor allele count as the second highest nucleotide count, the SNV
background count as depth minus the major count, and the INDEL
background count as the sum of insertion and deletion counts.
The
background count rate depends on the counting interval: the less is an interval, the less is the background.
However, the number of neutrino events counted in the experimental is only what one would expect as a
background count, and the results may represent some kind of statistical fluke or an unforeseen problem in the apparatus or analysis.
Background counts arising from external (to our apparatus) sources continue to be a difficulty; as a point-of-reference, the
background count rate drops a factor of five when the reactor is turned off.
During totality the
background count fell to the lowest value observed during the entire trip.
No
background count is expected for the demonstrator in 2.5 years, corresponding to a sensitivity of 6.5 x [10.sup.24] yr at 90% C.L [93].
Right now the symbol of royalty tells us and the world we are still a feudal society, a pyramid with aristocrats at the top and the rest of us below, where blood and
background count for more than brains and backbone.
At the end of each data-taking cycle the gate potential was lowered to zero to allow a
background count. The results are shown in Figs.
For an estimated
background count of 1.5 in the region where the triple coincidence peak is expected and [N.sub.T] = 1, [N.sub.D] = 5382, [[epsilon].sub.[gamma]] = 1 and [[OMEGA].sub.[gamma]]f = 0.084, the recommended procedure arrives at a value k = 3.11, corresponding to an upper limit for the branching ratio between 35 keV and 100 keV of 6.9 X [10.sup.-3] (90% confidence level).
The upgraded apparatus should produce an increase in the number of trapped neutrons by more than a factor of 20 without substantial increases in the
background count rates.
