A shallow, saucer-shaped skin boat used especially by Plains Indians for crossing rivers.

Probably quite an anachronism by the time this photograph was taken in or around 1911, the distinctive style of transport featured in this photograph, known as a 'bullboat', was once widely used by the Upper Missouri river tribes to cross rivers and navigate more shallow river-way tributaries.
