MONDAY, July 29, 2019 (HealthDay News) -- Since 2008, there has been a decrease in opioid prescribing and new persistent use after vaginal or
cesarean delivery, according to a study published online July 26 in JAMA Network Open.
Twin versus singleton pregnancies confer a 300% increased risk of severe acute maternal complications, and 21% of that risk is mediated by
cesarean delivery, according to findings from the prospective EPIMOMS study.
The
cesarean delivery rate in the United States varies widely, with national rates showing a 10-fold variation between hospitals.
Rates of
cesarean delivery have increased dramatically over the last 20 years, with more than 1 in 5 women delivering by cesarean, often for medically questionable reasons.
