Acetic acid finds applications as a precursor for the production of numerous compounds including camphor, mono
chloroacetic acid, photographic chemicals and diketene require acetic acid.
Most of these MCAs were detected in [P.sub.SLL] and [P.sub.SFB], whereas only 4 chloro-substituted alkanoic acids were detected in [P.sub.JCA] (i.e.,
chloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, 2,2-dichloropropanoic acid, and trichloroacetic acid).

Chitosan ([M.sub.w] [greater than or equal to] 20,000 Da, degree of deacetylation [greater than or equal to] 90%); triethylamine, Sulfanilic acid, Phenol, N-methyl pyrrolidone, and polyvinylpyrrolidone were analytical grade and purchased from Sinopharm Chemical Reagent;
chloroacetic acid, acetic acid, hexanedioic acid, acetone, glutaraldehyde, and polyvinyl alcohol were obtained from Shenyang Xinxi reagent Factory; Cholesterol was purchased from Henan xiayi Bell biological Products and polysulfone was purchased from Shanghai Shuguang chemical plastics industrial corporation.
The carboxymethoxime analogue 5 was synthesized through alkylation of 4 with
chloroacetic acid. The Schiff bases 6-10 were obtained through reflux of either 1 or 3 with appropriate amine.
In this study, carboxymethyl chitosan has been prepared by using
chloroacetic acid (and chitosan) under alkaline conditions to improve the removal efficiency of Cr(VI) by the hybrid membrane.
In the second step which is the main part of the study, the cyclocondensation of each of the previously prepared thioureas with
chloroacetic acid and substitute thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde were achieved by the technique of one-pot multicomponent reaction; and newly synthesized 5-substitued-2-imino-4-thiazolidinone compounds (A-E) were obtained (Tugcu 2009).
