Historically, various nomenclatures such as pseudorheumatoid arthritis, pseudoankylosing spondylitis, articular
chondrocalcinosis, and pseudogout have been employed to describe CPPD disease (2, 4).
He had
chondrocalcinosis involving the menisci and hyaline cartilage, with predominant patellofemoral joint osteoarthritis.
Radiographic findings included apparent
chondrocalcinosis with joint effusion in the talotibial joint, which is highly suggestive of pseudogout associated with CPPD.
The increased calcium level may cause salt to be deposited in the soft tissues, with the consequent involvement of sclera (band keratitis), tendons (calcific tendonitis), joint cartilage (
chondrocalcinosis and arthralgia), kidney parenchyma (nephrocalcinosis), and the pancreas.
The keywords "treatment," "management" "guidelines" "recommendations" "colchicine" "nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs" "Anakinra" and "corticosteroids" were successively associated with the terms "deposition" "crystalinduced," "micro-crystalline," "deposition," "arthropathies," or "arthritis" and with the name of the different deposition disease (e.g., for "calcium pyrophosphate deposition" the key words "
chondrocalcinosis," "calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate crystals" and "pseudogout" were also used).
(14) Although not contra-indications, some conditions cited as possibly leading to poorer outcomes after PFA are quadriceps atrophy, ligamentous instability, prior menisectomy,
chondrocalcinosis, higher patient activity, male gender, and lack of surgeon experience.
On the other hand, plain X-rays have shown a sensitivity of 39% for detecting
chondrocalcinosis [17], and it has been demonstrated that MRI is insensitive to the presence of CPPD in the knee, even when these deposits are widespread [18].
These were linear or punctuate deposits associated with certain diseases, such as
chondrocalcinosis, pseudogout, and pyrophosphate arthropathies.

Another paper describes the case of a patient with AS who experienced episodes of gouty arthritis and
chondrocalcinosis articularis.
There are characteristic gouty erosions and
chondrocalcinosis with secondary osteoarthritis.
