The forward collection battalion executes intelligence collection operations to satisfy
commander's critical information requirements while the operations battalion provides all-source intelligence, single-source intelligence, and warnings intelligence analysis throughout the operational environment (OE) specifically to support operations to shape and prevent.
It is imperative for BEB commanders to describe their visualization to the staff, and Army Doctrine Reference Publication 5-0 provides sufficient detail on developing commander's intent, planning guidance, and
commander's critical information requirements. But capturing all necessary guidance can be difficult given the flood of information that is present during mission analysis and the pressure to meet timelines for the next engagement.
Second, LNOs are rarely provided the detailed resources (specifically
commander's critical information requirements [CCIR], reporting criteria, and daily communication with senior leaders from their organic units) that are required for successful execution of their jobs.
With lines of effort, the sustainment planner articulates a desired intent (why), key tasks (what, when, and Where), assessment criteria (measure of effectiveness), tactical risk (and corresponding mitigation), and the
commander's critical information requirements. See figure 3 below.
Know the
commander's critical information requirements (CCIRs) and those of the commander's boss.
The
Commander's Critical Information Requirements will raise time-sensitive influence activities to the commander's level for action, both to exploit friendly effects and blunt enemy effects.
Soldiers within the brigade became some of the primary sources of information, and Baker evaluated their collection efforts in terms of the doctrinally accepted
commander's critical information requirements. (15) Before dismissing this example as only applicable to tactical situations, it is well to remember that tactical action in the information realm has long- and short-term operational and strategic implications.
* Establish
commander's critical information requirements. Consider all KIA, all or some WIA, all died of wounds, and key events (such as notification, movement of KIA/WIA, funeral, etc.)
PIO is a resource that supports the
commander's critical information requirements (CCIR) and contributes to risk management as well as force protection by maintaining a steady focus on criminal intelligence aspects that traditionally have not been covered by military intelligence units.
The CP NCOIC or XO must anticipate events and activities, identify information that relates to the
commander's critical information requirements (CCIR), conduct troop-leading procedures, and be prepared to execute contingency plans based on the current situation.
It was this process that facilitated the platoon's ability to ensure we were able to focus our reconnaissance on the
commander's critical information requirements and decision points.
