consulate style

A brief French transitional period named after Napoleon’s term as First Consul. More formal and rectangular than the preceding directoire pieces, it introduced many of the military and Egyptian motifs that became common under the Empire.

Crafted from American black cherry, the frame was fashioned after the saber-shaped legs, in the Greek manner of the Consulate style, with scrolled chests reminiscent of the Louis XVI period.
