Resistance of Anopheles stephensi to
dieldrin. Tehran: Institute of Parasitology and Malariology, Tehran University, Iran 1960; No.
These 12 priority POPs include 8 organo-chlorine pesticides: aldrin, chlordane, dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT),
dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor, mirex and toxaphene; two industrial chemicals: hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) group; and two groups of industrial by-products: dioxins and furans.
Among those covered are polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and terphenyls (PCT) and tris (2,3 dibromopropyl) phosphate, several forms of asbestos, 2,4,5-T, aldrin, chlordane, DDT,
dieldrin, heptachlor, hexachlorobenzene, lindane, mercury compounds, pentachlorophenol and methyl-parathion.
1950s Organochlorine pesticides (including
Dieldrin and Aldrin) introduced into widespread agricultural use.
Residues of pesticides banned in foods years ago, such as
dieldrin, continue to show up regularly, and potent toxins are still legally applied to food crops.
They are dioxins and related furans; polychlorinated biphenyls; and the pesticides aldrin, chlordane, DDT,
dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor, hexachlorobenzene, mirex, and toxaphene.
Degrades to
dieldrin. Alpha-BHC Insecticide introduced in 1942, no longer used in U.S.
The 12 -- PCBs, DDT, dioxins, chlordane, furans, hexachlorobenzene, aldrin, mirex,
dieldrin, toxaphene, endrin and heptachlor -- are all organochlorines and most are pesticides.
The pollutants are aldrin, chlordane, DDT,
dieldrin, dioxins, endrin, furans, heptachlor, hexachlorobenzene, mirex, PCBs and toxaphene.
Over the past 40 years in Hawaii, there has been wide-spread use of endocrine disrupting pesticides, including DBCP, DDT, DDE, kepone, heptachlor, chlordane,
dieldrin, mirex, lindane and toxaphene.
The major contaminants of concern in the rock , soil and bedrock groundwater that exceed federal and state standards are: volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as tetrachlorethene, trichloroethene, vinyl chloride and benzene; semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), including bis (2-chloroethyl)ether; pesticides, such as aldrin and
dieldrin; and metals including arsenic and manganese.
