Direct Vendor Delivery because of declining sales of office products through its Global Supply program as federal agencies turned to purchase cards, strategic sourcing and other ways of buying common office supplies.
NSSC uses
Direct Vendor Delivery contracts, or DVDs.
In keeping with an enterprise approach to logistics support, DLA Troop Support has transitioned "from managing items to managing the supply chain."10 DLA Troop Support uses a combination of long-term contracts with integrated suppliers and prime vendors, often with
direct vendor delivery as the means to bring supplies into the military logistics system.
Approximately 10 percent of all DoD cargo movement is managed directly by commercial suppliers or vendors through a process known as
direct vendor delivery. In the majority of scenarios, DVD offers significant cost-saving to DoD by leveraging the efficiencies of the marketplace and more effectively combining total acquisition and transportation requirements.
